Why use "green
cabinets?" |

|
|
|
There are a multitude of reasons why we as a global community should take
notice of the current environmental
state of the Earth, and why we individually should commit to making
eco-friendly choices. The following information will help to explain why
we at Evergreen Cabinetry think it's important to consider "green cabinetry." |
| |
|
|
|
 |
How to be "Environmentally
Friendly" |

|
|
The list is long and the implications
extraordinary. Environmentally friendly decisions include but are
not limited to:
- being aware of our planet's
state of being
- watching out for Earth's
environmental welfare
- reducing
unnecessary energy
use
- protecting the health of
our family and friends
- reducing the wasteful use
of our planet's limited natural resources
- promoting as much of a
low-impact lifestyle as possible by substituting synthetic products
with natural products and
-
recycling all
the products that can be reused every chance we get
It's for all those reasons
and more that we should all consider becoming “green.”
|
|
|
|
 |
It all adds up |

|
|
| The task is
more than gargantuan, but as each individual takes the first step
toward committing to doing this planet good and making
earth conscious decisions , it will all add up to more than
we can all imagine. We can "tread lightly" and not have to give
up much of what we're already used to in life. |
| |
|
| |
 |
Becoming "sustainable"
|

|
|
| Getting to
a state where we can maintain our needs indefinitely without tapping
into natural resources unless absolutely necessary is a goal we
can strive for and possibly even attain. To be “sustainable”
is not as impossible as it may seem. |
| |
|
|
|
 |
The application |

|
|
|
Being green is more than just the attitude, it's more about applying the
discipline to "do it" instead of just talking about the benefits
of reducing our carbon footprint. |

Low VOC and formaldehyde
free |

|
|
In an attempt
to define “green products” in construction, whether it's residential
or commercial, new construction or remodeling, it would include
but is not be limited to:
- Eliminating the use of
products containing a high concentration of
formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is a colorless, pungent, and irritating
gas, with the chemical formula HCHO or CH20, used chiefly as a
disinfectant and preservative and in synthesizing other compounds
like resins. Formaldehyde adds to the "greenhouse
effect" and is also a health-hazard.
- Lowering the “VOC”
(volatile organic compound) content of products. A VOC is a highly
evaporative, carbon-based chemical substance, which produces noxious
fumes (poisons); VOC's are found in many paints, caulks, stains,
and adhesives.

Commitment |

|
|
| Focusing on
low impact
wood products and
wood finishes is one way we at Evergreen Cabinetry are committed
to changing the manufacture of cabinets. |

One convincing
example (of many) |

|
|
| It's abundantly
obvious that the current global environmental state could be better
than it is at this point in Earth's history. One of many simple
but convincing arguments that our commitment to change will help
is to reverse the fractional increase in average world-wide temperature
which has taken place within the last hundred years. Many believe
that's trivial, but is actually more than significant. When one
considers the fact that there is only a five degree difference between
current "average global temperature" and the average global temperature
during the last known great ice-age, it's far more than trivial,
but instead substantial. |
