Frameless Cabinetry?
Frame-less cabinets offer:
- A greater amount of
usable interior space because the face-frame is eliminated
- A three inch wider
opening while accessing the inside of the cabinet
- A contemporary
"full-overlay" look
- All the same
cabinets available in a face-frame line
- All the same
accessories ("bells-and-whistles") available in a face-frame
line
Frameless "European" cabinets are simply cabinets without the
wood face-frame using construction techniques and hardware
specifically designed to produce a high-quality and durable case.
Virtually any wood veneer sheet material (coupled with MDF or
Plywood core) can be used to build "Euro" cabinets. Melamine coated MDF is one of the popular building materials that is available
in a wide variety of colors with matching edge banding tapes.
The beauty of a frameless (Euro) cabinet box is that it does
not require a wood frame. Doors are available in sizes that
cover a major portion of the front edge of the box/carcass--a
true "full-overlay" cabinet.
The cabinet carcass/box material can be made of virtually any
type of sheet goods including melamine, veneer MDF or veneer
plywood. The front edge of every box/carcass is covered with a
durable material made of melamine or veneer to match the color
of the doors installed.
Just as with most framed cabinets, exposed sides on cabinet
bases, uppers, talls and vanities are normally covered with an
end panel to match the doors on frameless cabinets.
Both frameless and face-frame cabinets can have any style of
door installed.
Frameless cabinets are "full overlay" and do not have a lot of space between the
doors from cabinet to cabinet. As a result, they require
hardware--knobs and pulls. Face frame cabinets
can either be "full overlay" or "partial overlay." When
selecting a "partial overlay" door style with a Framed
(face-frame) cabinet, more of the wood frame is exposed and
does not require hardware if the back side of the doors are
beveled for easy opening of doors and drawers.
The quality of a frameless cabinet is comparable to and
rivals the quality of a framed (face-frame) cabinet. |
